Experience the spectacle of the tens of thousands of wintering ducks, geese and swans that visit the estuary and surrounding grazing marshes. In spring, the marshes are filled with the atmospheric calls of lapwings and redshanks, all breeding on one of the UK's largest expanses of wet grassland. Access is along public footpaths.
Burgh Castle is one of the best preserved Roman monuments in the country. Built in the late 3rd century AD on a low cliff above the Waveney estuary, its substantial walls are an impressive sight.The imposing stone walls, with added towers for catapults, of a Roman 3rd century 'Saxon Shore' fort.

Great Yarmouth town has one of the best preserved and most complete Medieval town walls in England. Dating from 28 September 1261 when King Henry III granted Yarmouth the right to build a town wall. Large sections of these walls still survive today.
