Great Yarmouth town has one of the best preserved and most complete Medieval town walls in England. Dating from 28 September 1261 when King Henry III granted Yarmouth the right to build a town wall. Large sections of these walls still survive today.

Come and explore this museum housed in a converted Victorian herring curing works and take an exciting journey into the past. Discover Great Yarmouth's fascinating history, its rich maritime and fishing heritage and some of the colourful characters who made their living from the sea.

Visit one of the oldest prisons in the country and explore Great Yarmouth’s story of crime and punishment. Use the audio guide to hear the gaoler and his prisoners describe their experiences. Discover the fate of thieves, smugglers, witches, pirates and murderers when punishment included transportation and execution. Enjoy the hands-on activities and find out about the history of this 12th Century medieval former merchant’s house.
